Kid news

Just some quick news on what the kids have been up to lately:

Matias has been going to daycare only 3-4 days a week and seems to be much happier. He is a bit bored being at home with just me and the girls, but I can also tell that he really enjoys it. He spends a lot of time sitting in my lap reading books and doing puzzles, and we usually we have time to do some kind of baking or an art project. When the girls are taking their morning nap we often go to sauna together and then Matias takes a bubble bath. He LOVES his baths and can sit there for a very long time...at least until all the bubbles disappear. :) And baths are also super important because Matias is the messiest eater I have EVER seen in my life....it's kind of cute and funny, but it's seriously starting to be a problem....especially when we go to somebody else's house.

This is what happens when we drink a smoothie...

Matias is also talking A LOT, which I find very fun. It's really interesting to see how everything works when a child is learning 2 languages at the same time. A lot of his sentences have both Finnish and English words in them (which makes me so happy that I made the effort to study Finnish!), but he also seems to understand that some people speak English and some people speak Finnish. Matias's current favorite word is 'something.' Me: What did you have for lunch today? Him: Matias eat something. Me: What's wrong? Him: Matias scared something. Me: What do you want to play? Him: Matias play something. Takes a bit of investigating on my part to understand what he means. :) He is starting to express himself more clearly now and is even able to joke and tease a bit (which he definitely learned from his dad).

Being silly with mommy's hat (on backwards) and a toy camera:

Sofia is a little bundle of joy. She giggles all the time and just recently has started screaming in delight....really loud screaming! If Matias waves at her or even says 'hi', she laughs like crazy. If I make funny faces or move my head around, she laughs. If Olivia is kicking her feet, she laughs. Sofia seems to be a little bit on the 'princess' side....a little bit picky about certain things. She will let you know if she is a bit hot or a bit bored, and she will not drink her bottle if it's not exactly the right temperature. She has some stranger anxiety now, and she often cries if I leave the room, but otherwise is a very happy baby...and so cute!

Olivia....oh, Olivia. Just saying her name makes me smile. There is something so special about Olivia. Suddenly since Christmas she seems to have made leaps and bounds in her development and she seems soooo happy. She is smiling all the time. She was still quite sick when she came home in August and it used to be really hard to get her to smile or even look at you, so this really means a lot. She has suddenly gotten very strong as well. She can roll from tummy to back and back to tummy, and when she's on her stomach she can turn herself around in a complete circle using her arms. She can also hold her bottle by herself for quite awhile. Just this week Olivia has started babbling and her favorite thing to say is 'dadadadada'. Maybe daddy's girl? :)

Just a little reminder of how cute we are...

The best development since Christmas is that the kids are all really starting to interact with each other. Sofia and Olivia didn't pay too much attention to each other before (besides always holding hands), and Matias sometimes kissed the babies but otherwise wasn't too interested. But now when the girls laugh at him, he thinks he's the funniest guy in the world and he wants to do it again and again. He likes to help give them baths, hold their bottles, give them toys, burp them, etc. And the girls LOVE Matias. They watch everything he does and listen to everything he says. The girls also smile at each other a lot and try to 'talk' to each other. It is so much fun to watch them really enjoying each other's company....and it's only going to get better (and more interesting, I'm sure) from here. :)
